A commitment to sustainable tourism

HINA

through a donation collection system

The HINA platform offers both international visitors and local residents a unique opportunity to actively contribute to the sustainable development of The Islands of Tahiti.

By making a financial donation, they can support four carefully selected Polynesian nonprofit projects that address key challenges in the region — including socio-economic development (support for local communities and the creation of sustainable jobs), cultural preservation (promotion and safeguarding of Polynesian heritage), and environmental protection (initiatives aimed at preserving local ecosystems).

“Giving both our international visitors and local residents the opportunity to contribute to local projects that support the well-being of the population, the preservation of Polynesian culture, and the protection of our natural environment is fully aligned with our definition of Sustainable Tourism.”

Jean-Marc MOCELLIN – Former CEO of Tahiti Tourisme
HINA

Supporting sustainable initiatives

The HINA initiative aims to highlight four projects led by local associations, supported by the Anāvai Foundation and the Porinetia Fund, created by FAPE – Te Ora Naho.

HINA invites international travelers who have visited Tahiti and Its Islands, as well as local residents, to leave a positive impact on the islands by supporting these initiatives. The platform guarantees that 100% of donations go directly to the selected projects, thanks to a strict traceability system.

Supporting projects

that promote social equity, cultural heritage, and environmental sustainability

The four projects were selected by Tahiti Tourisme based on initiatives supported by the Anāvai Foundation and FAPE – Te Ora Naho, two major players in the local nonprofit and environmental landscape.

Tahiti Tourisme is promoting these projects to both international visitors and local residents, encouraging them to support the initiatives through the HINA online donation platform.

The four selected projects are distributed between the Anāvai Foundation and FAPE – Te Ora Naho:

“During our Annual Conference in February, we officially launched the Sustainable Tourism Plan 2030. The HINA project is one of the concrete actions stemming from this roadmap, and its implementation will be followed and supported by Tahiti Tourisme over the coming months and years.”

Vaihere LISSANT, CEO of Tahiti Tourisme

A strict process

ensuring full transparency

Donations are collected by the Anāvai Foundation and FAPE – Te Ora Naho, two organizations recognized for their integrity and commitment to supporting local community initiatives. They ensure that each donation is allocated exclusively to the selected projects and closely monitor their implementation until completion, keeping donors informed throughout the process.

Donors will receive email updates, allowing them to follow the concrete progress of the project they chose to support.

If a project cannot be carried out, donations are fully refunded to contributors. This principle of transparency is guaranteed by the Anāvai Foundation and FAPE – Te Ora Naho, who ensure the responsible and rigorous management of all collected funds.

The HINA platform is now live and will help bring these various projects to life.

A bilingual communication campaign (French and English) is scheduled from May to December 2025, targeting both international visitors and local residents. The media plan includes social media ads, placements in local magazines, billboard advertising (4×3 format), cinema spots, and visibility aboard planes and ships, as well as in airports and at the cruise terminal.

The campaign will also rely on the support of the local tourism industry, tourism committees in Tahiti and the islands, and our international representatives, through the use of a dedicated communication toolkit created specifically for this initiative.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is HINA?

The HINA initiative aims to highlight four sustainable tourism projects led by local associations, supported by the Natura Porinetia Fund—created by FAPE – Te Ora Naho—and the Anāvai Foundation.

It operates along three key pillars:

    • benefiting local communities,
    • preserving Polynesian culture,
    • reducing environmental impact.

HINA empowers travelers to be agents of change, ensuring that 100% of donations go directly to the projects through a rigorous traceability system. It also promotes local collaboration and broad communication of project outcomes to inspire a more sustainable form of tourism across Tahiti and Its Islands.

  • Where does my donation go?

Donations are collected by the Anāvai Foundation and FAPE – Te Ora Naho, two organizations widely recognized for their integrity and commitment to community-based initiatives. They ensure that funds are used exclusively for the causes and projects presented. Both organizations oversee the donation process, guarantee that every franc is allocated to the supported project, and monitor its progress.

As a donor, you will automatically receive email updates about the progress of the project you supported. This ensures full transparency and gives you peace of mind that your contribution is being properly managed and followed through.

  • What happens if the project does not come to fruition?

If a project cannot be completed, donations will be refunded to the contributors. This principle of transparency is guaranteed by the Anāvai Foundation and FAPE – Te Ora Naho, who ensure proper management of the funds. Tahiti Tourisme’s mission

Tahiti Tourisme relies on the expertise and management of the Natura Porinetia Fund by FAPE and the Anāvai Foundation to ensure the proper use of donations.

Tahiti Tourisme encourages stakeholders in the Polynesian tourism sector to contribute to this initiative.

As a member of the Selection Committee, Tahiti Tourisme also ensures the relevance of the projects for the “Sustainable Tourism” selection and promotes them to both resident and international visitors, encouraging support through an upcoming online donation platform.

The goal is for the projects chosen for this specific “Sustainable Tourism” selection to align with the country’s tourism development strategy, meaning projects that meet the criteria of the GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council), notably:

  1. Environmental protection: initiatives aimed at preserving local ecosystems.
  2. Cultural preservation: promotion and safeguarding of Polynesian cultural heritage.
  3. Positive economic and social impacts: support for local communities and creation of sustainable jobs.
  4. Sustainable governance: strengthening responsible management models.
