Citizen Committee

For Sustainable Tourism

As part of the development of the co-construction of a sustainable tourism action plan in French Polynesia, a call for applications was launched to welcome 20 citizens wishing to join the “Citizen Committee.”

  • What is the Citizen Committee?

    The Citizen Committee is an independent body composed of citizens from civil society in French Polynesia. This initiative aims to place Polynesian citizens at the heart of the co-construction process, giving them a voice through the formation of this Citizen Committee.

    The committee is committed to monitoring and deepening French Polynesia’s involvement in climate action, with a particular focus on the tourism sector.

    Alongside various governance bodies, the mission of the Citizen Committee members is to:

    • Provide citizen expertise to the project;
    • Offer opinions upon request from the steering committee;
    • Propose innovative ideas and recommendations for projects;
    • Contribute to the functioning and evolution of the Citizen Committee itself.
  • How Does It Work?

    The Citizen Committee operates through a structured and collaborative process to ensure meaningful citizen participation in the co-construction of the sustainable tourism action plan.

    Key Principles of Operation:

    ✅ Independence & Representation
    The committee is composed of 20 citizens from diverse backgrounds, ensuring broad representation of civil society.
    It functions independently.

    ✅ Regular Meetings & Workshops
    Members participate in scheduled meetings, discussions, and thematic workshops to contribute insights and ideas.
    The committee meets at least twice a year to review progress, assess impacts, and refine recommendations.

    ✅ Consultation & Decision-Making
    Members provide opinions upon request and contribute to actions.
    They propose new initiatives and ensure alignment with sustainability goals.

    ✅ Continuous Evolution
    The committee actively works on refining its structure and ensuring its long-term impact.
    It may evolve to include new members or adapt to emerging sustainability challenges.

    This participatory approach strengthens the integration of local voices into the future of sustainable tourism in French Polynesia.

  • Why Participate in the Citizen Committee?

    This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the design of our new roadmap for sustainable tourism in French Polynesia.

    By joining this Citizen Committee, members bring their citizen expertise to help deepen the understanding of the challenges our Fenua faces in implementing sustainable tourism.

    Above all, it is a chance to experience a rewarding journey of collective intelligence, working together to shape a more responsible and sustainable future for tourism in our islands.
