See writer James Norman Hall from a different perspective than his writings.
James Norman Hall is an American writer who played an important role in promoting the reputation of Tahiti when he co-authored The Bounty Trilogy, The Hurricane and other works with Charles Nordhoff. He arrived in Tahiti in the 1920s and settled in Arue on the east coast of the island, which at that time was a calm district in the countryside. He spent most of his life in Tahiti, where he married Sarah Teraireia Winchester, with whom he had two children. He died in 1951 and his wife in 1985. In 1991, the house was purchased by the French Pollynesian government and in 1993, at the request of Hall's descendants and the municipality of Arue, it was classified as a historic monument.
However, the house suffered from a lack of maintenance and slowly fell into disrepair. In 2002 it was rebuilt by Hall's descendants and the French Polynesian government and is now a museum.
