Citizens' Committee

For sustainable tourism
  • What is the Citizens' Committee?

    This is an independent committee made up of citizens from civil society in French Polynesia. The aim is to integrate Polynesian citizens into the heart of this co-construction and to give them a voice through the formation of this “Citizen Committee”.

    The committee is committed to monitoring and deepening French Polynesia’s involvement in its climate approach, with particular emphasis on the tourism sector.

    Alongside the various governance bodies, the mission of the members of the “Comité Citoyen” is :

    • Contribute their expertise to the project;
    • Provide opinions at the request of the steering committee;
    • Be a source of ideas for projects;
    • Work on the operation and development of the composition of the Citizens’ Committee.
  • How does it work?

    The Citizens’ Committee operates according to a structured and collaborative process to ensure meaningful citizen participation in the co-construction of the action plan for sustainable tourism.

    Key operating principles :

    ✅ Independence & Representation

    The committee is made up of 20 citizens from a variety of backgrounds, guaranteeing broad representation of civil society.
    It operates independently while collaborating with the governance bodies.

    ✅ Regular meetings & workshops

    Members participate in scheduled meetings, discussions and thematic workshops to contribute their ideas and expertise.
    The committee meets at least twice a year to review progress, assess impacts and refine its recommendations.

    ✅ Consultation & Decision-making

    Members give their opinion on request and contribute to the direction of policies and actions.
    They propose new initiatives and ensure their alignment with sustainability objectives.

    ✅ Continuous evolution

    The committee works actively to improve its operations and ensure its long-term impact.
    It can evolve by integrating new members or adapting to new sustainability challenges.
    This participatory approach strengthens the inclusion of local voices in the future of sustainable tourism in French Polynesia.

  • What's the point of taking part in this "Citizens' Committee"?

    This is a unique opportunity to help design our new roadmap for sustainable tourism in French Polynesia. By joining the Committee, members can contribute their expertise as citizens to help us understand the challenges facing our Fenua as we work towards sustainable tourism. Above all, it’s a unique opportunity to enjoy an enriching experience of collective intelligence.
