A commitment to sustainable tourism

HINA

a system for collecting donations

The HINA platform offers international visitors and residents a unique opportunity to actively contribute to the sustainable development of The Islands of Tahiti.

By making a financial donation to support four Polynesian associative projects, carefully selected to respond to the social, economic (support for local communities and creation of sustainable jobs), cultural (promotion and safeguarding of Polynesian cultural heritage) and environmental (initiatives to preserve local ecosystems) challenges of Fenua.

“Giving our international visitors and residents the opportunity to contribute to local projects that promote the well-being of the local population, preserve Polynesian culture and protect our natural environment is completely in line with our definition of sustainable tourism.

Supporting sustainable initiatives

The HINA initiative aims to promote four projects run by associations supported by the Anāvai Foundation and the Porinetia Fund, set up by FAPE – Te Ora Naho.

HINA offers international travellers who have stayed in The Islands of Tahiti and the local population the chance to leave a positive impact after their visit to the various islands of Polynesia, while ensuring that 100% of their donations directly support the projects thanks to rigorous traceability.

Supporting projects

socio-economic, cultural and sustainable

The four projects were selected by Tahiti Tourisme on the basis of projects supported respectively by the Anāvai Foundation and FAPE – Te Ora Naho – two major entities in the associative and environmental fabric.

Tahiti Tourisme is promoting these projects to international visitors and residents, encouraging them to support these initiatives via the HINA online donation platform.

The four selected projects are divided between the Anāvai Foundation and FAPE – Te Ora Naho :

“At our Annual Conference in February, we formalised the 2030 Sustainable Tourism Plan, and the HINA project is one of the concrete actions arising from this plan, which Tahiti Tourisme will be rolling out over the coming months and years.

Rigorous process

and guaranteed transparency

Donations are collected by the Anāvai Foundation and FAPE – Te Ora Naho, two organisations recognised for their rigour and commitment to local community initiatives. They ensure that each donation is allocated exclusively to the projects presented and monitor the implementation of the said project until its completion in order to inform donors.

Donors will receive updates by e-mail, enabling them to follow the concrete progress of the project they have chosen to support.

If a project cannot be completed, donations are refunded in full to contributors. This principle of transparency is guaranteed by the Anāvai Foundation and FAPE – Te Ora Naho, which ensure rigorous and responsible management of the funds collected.

The HINA platform is now operational and will enable these various projects to come to life.

A local communications campaign, available in French and English, is planned from May to December 2025 to promote the HINA platform to international tourists and residents. The media plan includes advertising on social networks, insertions in local magazines, posters on 4×3 billboards, in cinemas, on board planes and boats, and in airports and cruise terminals. The campaign will also be supported by the local tourism industry, tourist boards in Tahiti and the islands, and our international representatives, via a communication kit created for the occasion.

Frequently asked questions

The role of Tahiti Tourisme

Tahiti Tourisme relies on the expertise and management of the FAPE’s Natura Porinetia Fund and the Anāvai Foundation to ensure that donations are put to good use.

Tahiti Tourisme encourages the Polynesian tourism industry to contribute to this initiative.

As a member of the Selection Committee, Tahiti Tourisme also ensures that the projects selected for the “Sustainable Tourism Selection” are relevant and promotes them to local and international visitors, encouraging them to support these initiatives via a forthcoming online donation platform.

The idea is that the projects chosen for this specific “Sustainable Tourism” selection should be in line with the region’s tourism development strategy, i.e. projects that meet the criteria of the GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council), in particular:

  1. Environmental protection: initiatives aimed at preserving local ecosystems.
  2. Cultural preservation: promoting and safeguarding Polynesian cultural heritage.
  3. Positive economic and social impacts: supporting local communities and creating sustainable jobs.
  4. Sustainable governance: strengthening responsible management models.

HINA: the platform to encourage

tourists and residents to make donations

HINA is the emblematic character of Tahiti Tourisme’s campaigns to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable tourism among the local population since 2023. She embodies the values of more responsible tourism and will now be talking to tourists to encourage them to contribute via a donation platform accessible to all.

HINA, which means great-grandchild in Reo Tahiti, symbolises our commitment to working today to offer a better world to future generations.

HINA’s values

  • Harmony: Promoting a lifestyle in harmony with nature and local communities.
  • Inclusiveness: Ensuring that everyone, including local people, benefits from sustainable tourism.
  • Nature: Protecting and enhancing the region’s unique biodiversity.
  • Authenticity: Showcasing local cultures and traditions with respect and integrity.

The HINA platform enables tourists, residents and businesses to contribute directly to community projects. The aim is to create a lasting positive impact, while raising visitors’ awareness of the importance of their contribution.
