The year 2023 marks a historic turning point for French Polynesia with the operational launch of the Fari’ira’a Manihini 2027 (FM27) strategy. Co-constructed with the population and players in the sector, this ambitious roadmap aims to transform the destination into a global model of sustainable tourism, where the protection of natural resources and cultural heritage becomes the driving force behind the local economy.

Towards inclusive and sustainable tourism
The FM27 strategy does more than simply set environmental objectives; it places people at the heart of its approach. By involving both public and private players, this roadmap seeks to optimise the social benefits for local populations while guaranteeing an authentic, high-quality experience for visitors. This comprehensive approach ensures that tourism development benefits the entire Polynesian community over the long term.
To make this ambition a reality, Tahiti Tourisme has joined the Global Sustainable Tourism Council(GSTC). This membership means we can rely on rigorous international criteria to guide every decision we take. From the training of internal teams to the appointment of specialist advisors, the organisation is giving itself the means to achieve its ambitions, by harmonising its actions with the standards of the Pacific region by 2030.
In addition to raising awareness among tourism professionals, the local population is the target of the awareness campaign, which will be launched in March 2023. A campaign to inform and raise awareness of the importance of responsible tourism.
