Annual Conference - ParauParau Tahiti - PPT 2023

Tahiti Tourisme is once again organising its Annual Conference and the ParauParau Tahiti -PPT 2023, an opportunity to meet with the local industry and international partners to present the results of 2022 and discuss the strategic directions for 2023.

Published on 18 January 2023

A key event in the tourism industry

Tahiti Tourisme has 9 international representative offices promoting The Islands of Tahiti in a total of 20 markets. Once a year, at its Annual Conference, the international representatives meet to review the previous year, study market trends and opportunities, and present the strategic directions for 2023 to the entire local tourism industry.

This year, Tahiti Tourisme ‘s Annual Conference will take place on Monday 30 January at the Lycée Hôtelier de Tahiti, from 8am to 5pm.

The Tahiti Tourisme head office team will present the strategic directions and key actions for 2023, as well as a workshop on sustainable tourism, led by an international guest, Dr David ERMEN, trainer for the Global Sustainable Tourism Council ( GSTC).

In addition to the presentations and talks, tourism industry professionals will also have the opportunity to meet Tahiti Tourisme’s international representatives for one-to-one meetings to discuss market trends and key marketing initiatives for 2023.

A SPECIAL GUEST FOR THIS EDITION

2023 is a special year for the destination, with the aim of positioning The Islands of Tahiti as the leader in sustainable tourism in the South Pacific. That’s why Tahiti Tourisme wanted to invite a special guest to its annual conference.

Dr David ERMEN, Managing Director of Destination Capacity, a New Zealand agency specialising in sustainable tourism which offers consulting services, training and tailor-made support to private and public sector professionals, will be speaking on behalf of the GSTC.

Dr ERMEN will lead a workshop on inclusive and sustainable tourism. He will be sharing his knowledge of sustainable tourism and tourism development for our destination, The Islands of Tahiti, with local tourism professionals.

As for local speakers, Julien VUCHER-VISIN – Head of Studies at the Statistical Institute of French Polynesia (ISPF), will give an overview of the tourism figures for 2022, which are on the rise following the return to normal health conditions.

WHAT’S NEW FOR 2023

Usually unveiled at the end of the morning conference, the presentation of market initiatives by TahitiTourisme’s international representatives is changing format this year. Starting at 1pm in the afternoon, each representative will meet local professionals during discussion sessions (prior registration required) to present their action plan and market trends.

Tahiti Tourisme ‘s annual conference is an opportunity to bring together all the professionals in the local and international tourism sector, as well as the country’s institutions. For those who were unable to register in time, the conference will be broadcast live on Tahiti Tourisme‘s YouTube channel on Monday 30 January.

Tahiti Tourisme is committed to preserving the islands and wants to make this event an eco-responsible day. A number of measures will be taken, including reducing waste by inviting all participants to bring a reusable water bottle, as water fountains will be available, and ensuring that no brochures are printed. However, a digital version will be available on Tahiti Tourisme’s websites. No plastic will be used for this unique event.

Tahiti Tourisme will also be offering a downloadable document on current trends, market by market, to help industry professionals define their objectives based on the global and competitive economic context.

1st international tourism event in Tahiti

The ParauParau Tahiti – PPT, created by Tahiti Tourisme, has been the benchmark professional event for the tourism industry in Tahiti And Her Islands since 2018.

In partnership with Air Tahiti Nui, the official airline of the ParauParau Tahiti – PPT, Tahiti Tourisme organises this event, which brings together product managers from the main tour operators in the outbound markets, as well as local tourism players.

The event is intended as a platform for exchanging ideas in order to re-establish and strengthen relations with the destination’s international influencers on the one hand, and to ensure that The Islands of Tahiti programming, in all its diversity, is maintained on the outbound markets on the other.

The two days of meetings, which will take place at the Presidency of French Polynesia on 31 January and 1 February 2023, will be preceded or followed by familiarisation trips for product managers who are present and who have decided to take part in the “eductours” organised by Tahiti Tourisme. This is an opportunity for the main outbound markets to discover The Islands of Tahiti and to optimise the promotion of the destination thanks to these enriching experiences.

For Tahiti Tourisme, it is now essential to consolidate relations between local tourism professionals and the destination’s international sales force.

THE PRINCIPLE

– Thanks to a partnership with Air Tahiti Nui, the event’s official airline, 103 plane tickets have been offered to media guests and product managers from the main tour operators. Local tourism professionals will be meeting product managers from the Europe, America and Pacific regions. It should be noted that the Asia region will not be represented in its entirety, as China is still subject to strict health restrictions.

– The 81 Polynesian tourism professionals who have registered will have the opportunity to meet 91 product managers from the main international tour operators during these two days of meetings.

The familiarisation trips, which will precede or follow the event, will take place on the islands of Tahiti, Moorea, Raiatea, Taha’a, Bora Bora, Rangiroa Tikehau, Fakarava, Mataiva and Makatea. These experiences will enable the various participants to immerse themselves in the destination and share their experiences and emotions in their respective markets.

AN OPPORTUNITY TO RECONNECT WITH THE INDUSTRY

The event is aimed at product managers from the twelve markets and three regions that market the destination: Europe (France, Italy, Germany, England, Switzerland, Spain and Belgium), America (United States, Canada and Mexico) and the Pacific (New Zealand and Australia).

This 2023 event is particularly important, as it is the first face-to-face event since the start of the pandemic, and many local partners have not yet had the opportunity to meet international professionals.

The two days of the ParauParau Tahiti – PPT 2023 will be held at the Presidency of French Polynesia, an ideal venue for welcoming 81 local professionals (airlines, cruises, cultural activities, diving centres, domestic airlines, hotels, private islands, incoming agencies, international airlines, land-based activities, nautical activities, museums, small family hotels, tourist carriers, seasonal rentals and nautical charters) and 91 product managers.

The annual event will bring together local professionals representing the destination’s various tourism sectors:

  • 1 aviation activity,
  • 1 association
  • 3 cruise companies
  • 3 cultural activities,
  • 6 diving centres,
  • 2 domestic airlines,

SUSTAINABLE TOURISM, THE THEME OF THIS YEAR’S EVENT

Fāri’ira’a Manihini 2027, the tourism strategy initiated by the Polynesian Ministry of Tourism in 2020 and co-constructed with the population as well as public and private tourism stakeholders, is part of a trajectory for inclusive and sustainable tourism. It aims to meet the expectations of travellers, while sustainably preserving the destination and its assets (its environment, its culture and its welcoming population). This collaborative approach will be maintained in the monitoring and operational deployment of the action plan it contains, as the interests of the Polynesian population are at the heart of the territory’s tourism development.

As part of this strategy, Tahiti Tourisme is contributing to a more responsible development of its actions and events. For this year’s ParauParau Tahiti – PPT 2023, our commitment to sustainability has been strengthened through a number of concrete actions:

Relying on benchmark organisations: the creation of this event is based around tools used by our service provider, Tahiti Expert Event (TEE), to improve and monitor the environmental impact of the event, such as Adere (Auto Diagnostic Environnemental pour les Responsables d’Evénements). This tool enables event professionals to limit the impact of an event in terms of food, transport, communication, etc.

Encouraging a virtuous economy: favouring local, seasonal products, short circuits and local service providers (entertainment, goodies, catering, etc.). This is what we want to achieve in organising this event.

Adding value to carbon emissions: participants will be offered the opportunity to add value to the carbon footprint of their trip and thus offset its environmental impact. This solidarity action could benefit a local association. Participants are also encouraged to use public transport or car-share to get to the event.

Making the most of resources and waste: water bottles will be distributed to all participants and water points will be made available throughout the event. Waste will be sorted, recycled and weighed at the end of the event. Communications media will be limited, reused and digitised as much as possible.
