Tahiti Tourisme brings you the second edition of Tere Nā Tua. The call of the open sea is heard and invites you on Saturday 25 June 2022. This new concept of Tere Nā Tua, introduced last year, lets you discover the coasts of the island of Tahiti by sailing on catamarans.
Discover the island in a different way

Tahiti Tourisme invites you to take to the open seas aboard catamarans decked out in flowers for the occasion, to discover the island of Tahiti by sea. Unlike the Tere, which is done in a truck, and the Tere Nā Tai, which invites you to sail around the Tahitian lagoon in a pirogue boat, the Tere Nā Tua sets itself apart by calling on the services of nautical charter companies for a journey on the high seas.
Guests will board the catamarans at the Tahua Tu Marama esplanade (formerly known as the Jacque Chirac Esplanade) in the Papeete roadstead, then head for Mahina and Papenoo to enjoy the cliffs of Tahara’a headland or Motu Martin. During the journey, Polynesian stories and legends will be told to arouse the curiosity of the guests.
Water activities
The programme continues as you sail along the coast to Taapuna Pass, before anchoring opposite the Tahiti Faa’a airport runway. At their destination, guests can take to the water and try their hand at a range of aquatic activities (paddling, snorkelling, etc.). There will also be an introduction to traditional sailing on the va’a ta’ie tautoru, or two-outrigger sailing pirogue, followed by a demonstration of traditional dance and an introduction to tamure and pa’oti. Lunch will focus on fish: barbecues with salad and raw fish in coconut milk will be served.
Finally, to round off this voyage at sea, the boat will head for the Pointe des Pecheurs in Paea and return to Papeete harbour at 5pm.
The Tere organised by Tahiti Tourisme are local events that promote inland tourism by enabling local residents and international tourists to discover or rediscover tourist sites and also find out about the activities available. Several Tere are organised throughout the year and offer a tour of the island of Tahiti based on different themes.
