Description

The Tiare de Hina, a flower endemic to Maupiti.
A flower that's endemic to Maupiti grows on the small motu Pitihaheia. Named after the goddess of the moon, the "Tiare de Hina" (Hina's Flower), is smaller than the Tiare Tahiti and has large petals. Legend has it that before the Tahitian tiara, the original plant came from Maupiti and was named tiara maurua (diminutive). Then, during a trip, Hina took a branch with her to plant it in Taunoa on Tahiti. This is how the Tahitian tiara was born.
