The Islands of Tahiti and the world of professional surfing have a long and closely linked history. Since 2002, the World Surf League (WSL) has been stopping off at the shores of Teahupo’o with its elite circuit, highlighting the raw power and spectacular beauty of this legendary wave. However, 2026 promises to be a pivotal year, with a particularly busy schedule of events for both local and international surfers. The Tahitian Surfing Federation (FTS) is strengthening its commitment to developing local talent by significantly increasing the number of World Qualifying Series (WQS) events held in Tahiti. Until now, only the Rangiroa Pro allowed Tahitian surfers to enter the championship qualifying circuit. In 2026, three WQS competitions will offer new opportunities for local surfers to distinguish themselves: Trials Tahiti Pro (July 15–19) In addition to these WQS events, the Tahitian Surfing Federation (FTS) is elevating the Teahupo'o Trials to a full-fledged event. Previously considered a preliminary event for the Tahiti Pro, the Trials will now take center stage. The 27th edition will take place from July 15 to 19, one month before the main event, offering local surfers a dedicated platform to showcase their talent on the legendary Teahupo’o wave. The winners of the men's and women's categories will qualify for the Tahiti Pro, where they will compete against the world's surfing elite.
