There are currently around one hundred yachts operating in French Polynesia, a number that is not changing very much (up by just 10% over the last 10 years).

In order to identify these pleasure boats operating as professional charter boats in the lagoons of The Islands of Tahiti, the Service Du Tourisme (SDT), in cooperation with the Direction Polynésienne des Affaires Maritimes (DPAM) and with the support of Tahiti Tourisme, is introducing dedicated signage.

SIGNAGE TO HELP IDENTIFY THEM

Like tourist land transport vehicles, water charter companies can now affix this badge to their vessels.

In a press release sent out in August to all the charter companies operating in French Polynesia, Tahiti Tourisme invited them to fill in an application form, which can be obtained from the DPAM or also available on the Tahiti Tourisme website(www.TahitiTourisme.org), in order to obtain the “nautical charter transport signage” kit, which consists of :

Once the documents have been completed and validated, charter companies can collect their kit and install it on their vessels, again from the DPAM.

RAISE AWARENESS OF THE NAUTICAL CHARTER BUSINESS

Tahiti Tourisme has prepared a communication action plan to inform charter boat companies, tourist boards and island municipalities about the introduction of this scheme.

As part of the campaign to raise public awareness of the importance of sustainable tourism, an episode of the Hina series ” Ensemble, agissons pour un tourisme durable ” ( Together, let’s act for sustainable tourism ) has been dedicated to raising awareness of the nautical charter business. Signage is mentioned:

The episode is currently being broadcast on TNTV and on social networks.

The campaign to raise awareness among the tourist industry and the general public will continue in the field, during the events organised by Tahiti Tourisme in Tahiti and the islands from October to November.
