Tahitians have tattoos of manta rays, sharks, whales and turtles, symbols of their ancestral and historic links with the ocean. Divers come from all over the world to have the honour of observing these sacred creatures, a reminder that Tahiti and Her Islands are under the protection of the gods. As such, the sea and islands are the embodiment of paradise on Earth. The warm waters that surround the islands are havens of peaceful life for thousands of marine species, from small clown fish to sharks and humpback whales that visit every year from July to November. The door to paradise is open to you.

Idyllic diving conditions

Tahiti and Her Islands offer exceptional visibility, often reaching 40 metres. With water temperatures fluctuating between 26°C and 29°C, a light wetsuit is all you need to explore our seabed all year round. The crystal-clear waters allow you to admire every detail of the coral gardens, making diving accessible and comfortable for all sea lovers.

Stunning marine biodiversity

From tiny butterfly fish to majestic hammerhead sharks, there is a rare wealth of underwater life. Divers regularly come across manta rays, napoleons and schools of barracuda. Although reef sharks are peaceful, a respectful distance is recommended to observe these guardians of the ocean in their natural habitat.

Exploration zones for all levels

The lagoon offers shallow natural pools, ideal for a gentle introduction to diving. The outer reef reveals a deep blue where vibrant corals and large predators mingle. Finally, the passes are intense crossroads of life where drift dives, carried by the current, offer a magical spectacle between the ocean and the lagoon waters.

Frequently asked questions
  • How long should I wait before flying after diving?

For your own safety, and to avoid any risk of decompression, it is imperative that you leave at least 12 to 24 hours between your last dive and an inter-island or international flight. So plan your dives at the beginning of your stay on each island so that you can enjoy your last day by the lagoon with complete peace of mind.

  • Can I dive if I haven't done so for several years?

Absolutely. If it’s been more than 6 or 12 months since your last dive, the centres offer a Scuba Review. Accompanied by an instructor, you will review safety procedures and buoyancy management in a shallow area before exploring more technical sites or passes.

  • Is diving equipment always included in the packages?

Most centres include the ‘block’ (bottle) and weights. As for the rest (wetsuit, waistcoat, regulator), it depends on the centre: some include it in the ‘all-inclusive’ price, others offer it as an extra per day. If you have your own dive computer, we strongly advise you to bring it along for accurate monitoring of your parameters.

  • Are there discounted passes for diving on several islands?

Yes, there are Diving Passes (like the Te Moana Pass) that allow you to buy a book of 6, 10 or 20 dives that can be used in a number of partner centres spread across the different archipelagos. It’s an economical and flexible solution if you plan to dive in Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora and the Tuamotus on the same trip.

Safety and expertise of local centres

Safety is an absolute priority at our world-class centres. Each outing is supervised by certified and experienced instructors. Should the need arise, Polynesia has modern recompression chambers and medical teams specialising in hyperbaric medicine, on call day and night to guarantee immediate assistance.

Equipment and training

The centres offer state-of-the-art equipment for hire, from regulators to computers. Both beginners and experts can obtain internationally recognised certifications such as PADI, CMAS or FFESSM. This flexibility allows everyone to progress and discover more technical sites, between 30 and 42 metres.
