Ajouter aux favoris

As part of the implementation of the country’s sustainable tourism strategy, Fāri’ira’a Manihini 2027, the Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with Tahiti Tourisme, the Tourism Department and the Centre d’Étude sur le Tourisme en Océanie-Pacifique (CETOP), carried out a study on the perception of tourism by the population of French Polynesia. The survey was carried out over two months, from November to December 2023.

Sustainable tourism development

Sustainable tourism takes into account the economic and social impacts and, above all, the well-being of local residents. This study will not only help to guide the development of tourism in the future, but also to ensure that this development is socially acceptable, while listening to the public. It’s important to note that the public’s opinion is essential, as residents’ attitudes have become the primary driver of the visitor experience. It is therefore an opportunity for all Polynesians to express themselves and to participate in the construction of our Tourism, by giving their opinions and recommendations.

The aim of the survey is to gather the opinions of the population in order to objectively assess their perception of the tourism industry, and the positive and negative spin-offs, with a view to identifying areas for improvement. The survey was available in French and Tahitian.

The results of the survey

MMGY Travel Competitive Index Research (TCI Research) was consulted for this consultation. The company offers a solution for studying competitive data on tourism. Several destinations are already working with the organisation, including Atout France, Province Sud de Nouvelle-Calédonie, Tourisme Montréal, Visit Britain and Dubai Tourism.

Standard questions for all destinations are proposed in order to collect a large number of essential indicators on the positive or negative impacts of tourism, the quality of life of the local population, the quality of infrastructures, etc. The methodology applied is flexible, as it allows additional questions to be adjusted or added to address specific aspects of a destination. This methodology is also endorsed and awarded by major international tourism organisations, such as the World Tourism Organisation.

Fari'ira'a Manihini 2027

Tahiti Tourisme is launching a communications campaign to raise awareness among the local population of Tahiti Et Ses Îles‘ tourism development strategy, dubbed Fāri’ira’a Manihini (FM27). Over the next five years, this strategy aims to position French Polynesia as a flagship destination for inclusive and sustainable tourism.

The strategy, which has been co-constructed with the local population as well as public and private tourism stakeholders, unveils an ambitious action plan up to 2027, which aims to protect natural resources, optimise the spin-offs of tourism for the local population and prioritise a quality experience for visitors.

This is the context for this awareness campaign. Its aim is to inform the local population about the content of the FM27 roadmap and also to raise awareness of the actions that can be taken by everyone to ensure sensible, inclusive and sustainable tourism.

The awareness-raising campaign is based around the broadcasting of two series of videos, one of which is entitled “Together, let’s take action for sustainable tourism”, presented by Hina, a young Polynesian character in animated form, already known to the local public for a campaign launched in 2020 on barrier gestures, in the middle of a pandemic.
